WLA receives 501(c)(3) Approval from the IRS...

Chicken Barbecue in 2006 when we asked the membership for a vote to separate the Wild Lake Committee from the HLA so that it could become an entity known as the Wild Lake Association.  This was necessary in order to get non-profit status.  In January of 2007, after obtaining financing, the WLA paid off the loan to the Society For Protection of NH Forests and closed on the 400 acre property.  Now came the daunting task of obtaining 501 (C)(3 ) status from the federal government.

Paperwork began, first with the State of New Hampshire, completed in the spring of 2007.  The next step was the long and tedious effort to get the non-profit status from the U.S. government.  The lengthy form was finally submitted in late spring, thanks to a major effort by Mike Jubert, Jeff Berry and Deb Szymaszek.  The turnaround was supposed to take 90 days.  There were numerous communications between the government and the WLA about the application and the data supplied.  Approval finally arrived in the mail in early December of 2007.

The WLA can now accept tax exempt donations from corporations and individuals.  This will assist us in paying off our debt.  We are currently looking into some fund raising ideas.  Hopefully, our HLA members will help us accomplish this.
